The Great Exchange – From Meaningless to Purposeful Life

Dr. Myles Munroe once said, “The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but a life without purpose.”

There are times I feel my life is going circle – no meaning, no purpose, no direction whatsoever. For 6 years, my life was stagnant – no rules to follow, no journal to write ideas and memories. I Wake up at 6am, take a bath, eat breakfast, go to work from 8am to 5pm, go home, Dinner time, watch my favorite TV series until 9pm then sleep and do the same the next day!

Then one day, I realized my life is tiring – meaningless! There are lots of questions that keeps on disturbing my mind. Why am I still alive? What’s the purpose of my existence? What God wants to do with my life?

When I see college friends soaring in success, I felt I’m ashamed of myself, I felt I was left behind.

Then I accidentally opened Terri Savelle Foy’s preaching of Passion, Potential and Purpose ( You tube)! That video really made my day! She’s really a success cheerleader. She taught me to write my goals and act on it.  I learned how to live my life to the fullest, I’m strictly following rules and thank God my life has change exponentially.

We are created by God unique but has equal opportunities; we are taking different paths but heading toward the same destination – the top of the mountain; we have different life to live, and the purpose to fulfill, etc.

Looking back, college days had been tough. I took the wrong course.  It was the only course available that interest me. I took up Bachelor of Science in accountancy and realized later, it wasn’t for me. I got bored! Going to accountancy class was a nightmare for me, but still continued and finished it because but I don’t want to disappoint my parents.  But In the end, I didn’t pursue my course because I never loved and enjoyed it.

Lesson Learned: When choosing a course in college, it must be your real passion. Take the course you enjoy, so college will not be a nightmare.

If I go back and study again, I rather choose “Entrepreneurship” or Business Administration. I love selling and marketing. But it’s not late. I built a business out of my passion and I enjoyed it a lot.

But life has more than that… life has a greater purpose!

Last Sunday – Christians commemorates the resurrection of Jesus. The preacher talked about “The Great Exchange – from meaningless to purposeful life.” He talked about the death and the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Died on the cross to save us from sins that we inherited from Adam and Eve. He came down to rescue our soul. He exchanges his life so our meaningless lives will have a purpose. That was a great exchange.

Though I’m not comfortable writing about it because I’m not professional theologian, I think it’s needed. Because half of my life, I felt I’m living a meaningless life.

According to John 3:16, “for God so love the world that He gave his only begotten Son, That whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but has everlasting life”.

When I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, my life had a 360 turnaround – I value my life now, I value other people; I have a heart for charities and the needy.

The Bible is a miracle book, it can change life. I’ve heard a lot of living testimonies of change – from prostitutes to worship leaders, from beggars to millionaires, from Criminals to preachers. For me, that’s a great testimony of faith.

To wrap this up, I have compiled below top 5 lyrics of songs that had great impact in my life. Sometimes song lyrics can direct your path, it can bring joy, and it can give inner peace down to your soul and spirit. It can change your life!

This is the compilation of the song (my favorite part of the lyrics only) that has been a part of my every day journey as mom, blogger, neighbor, sister and a wife. Songs that can change a life! And every song has a story!

Every Song has a Story of Inspiration – Here are my top 5 Favorites

1. Glory to the King by Hillsongs

“You’re the father to the fatherless, the answer to my prayer”

This is my top 1 all-time favorite worship song. This is the song I hold on to when my first boyfriend cheated on me while I’m working abroad, away from my parents and friends.

When my dad joined his creator last 2017, this song made me stand up again after his loss because I knew my God is the father to the fatherless.

2. I will Rise by Chris Tomlin

“I will Rise when He calls my name, No more sorrow, No more pain.

I will rise on eagle’s wings before my God fall on my Knees and Rise.”

I heard this song when I had my depression. When I first heard it, I cried hard enough then I played it continuously for an hour.

3. I wish I Could by Collin Raye (Note: Part only)

Smile, say cheese pretty-please I wanna take your picture

How’d you ever get so big I gotta take your picture

Hold on to the memory before the whole thing slips away

I wish I could save these moments And put ’em in a jar

I wish I could stop the world from turning

Keep things just the way they are

I wish I could shelter you from everything

Not pure and sweet and good

I know I can’t, But I wish I could

Here in the Philippines, country music is not popular unlike Pop, RNB and Rock. But to the place where I grew up (Northern Part), this is our number 1 song choice and we are much familiar with Collin Raye, Faith Hill, Billy Raye Cyrus, Billy Dean, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Carrie Underwood, Shania Twain, Taylor Swift, etc. What I love about country music is that, every song has a story.

I wish I could is a song dedicated by a father to his daughter, a beautiful Father-daughter story of Love and care.

4. What I Need by Collin Raye (Note: Part only)

‘Cause I prayed for strength And I got pain that made me strong

I prayed for courage And got fear to overcome

When I prayed for faith My empty heart brought me to my knees

I don’t always get what I want I get what I need

I’m not sayin’ that it’s easy Or that it doesn’t hurt

When nothing seems to go my way Nothing seems to work

These days I’m getting better At goin’ with the flow

Accepting that sometimes the answer To a prayer is no

Isn’t it obvious? Collin Raye is among my favorites. Most of his songs are inspirational. If your prayer is not answered yet, this song is great for you.

5. I believe I can Fly by R. Kelly (Note: Part only)

I used to think that I could not go on, And life was nothing but an awful song

But now I know the meaning of true love, I’m leaning on the everlasting arms

If I can see it, then I can do it, If I just believe it, there’s nothing to it

I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky

I think about it every night and day, Spread my wings and fly away

I believe I can soar, I see me running through that open door

I believe I can fly

This is an inspirational song. Every time I’m down and depress because my life is going circle, with this song I feel energetic again.

  5. A lot of people can relate to what happened to you during college course-choosing. The most important thing is that even without the degree you’ve always wanted, there is a lot more in life other than your post-college life that can really give you satisfaction in life.
