There are tests of life we have to endure. Everyday we are confronted with setbacks and trials that leave us unguarded. But Life is Good Despite Surging storms, Shaking Ground and Trials. God will win our fights.
1. The Test of Life and Death
What if one day, you will face difficult situation that test your ability to decide from two major decisions? Let say, your wife is about to give birth to your first baby, you have waited for so long, prayed and cried a lot, went to a series of fertilization just to conceive. And God answered your prayer.
But the big problem is, your wife had complications, you have to choose who to save, the baby whom you have waited or your wife whom you dearly love. You cannot choose both or you will lose them both.
I asked some of my guy friends and they told me they will save the mother’s life. They said “God will surely provide another baby at the right time”. But to a mom – if I were in that situation, I will surely choose my baby’s life. Mother’s love is unconditional, love that can reach the deepest sea.
In situation where the test of life and death is at stake, I will still choose to save my kid’s life above and beyond circumstances even if it means losing my life. I have to sacrifice my life for the sake of my child. I will never be happy seeing someone gave up his life for my sake.
As parents, we all want the best for our kids – good education, career that will feed them for a lifetime, good health and happy family. So we raise them to the best of our ability. Their failures will be our failures too, if they go the wrong way, our duty is to put them back on track.
We should teach them good values, their destiny depends on how parents discipline them at home. We have to teach and discipline them while they’re young. Never spoil them, open their eyes to the cruelty of the world, so they’ll be ready to conquer difficulties that the world will bring forth. Teach them to be a victor not a victim.
Our greatest achievement is to see our kids pursue their God given destiny, to see them graduate from college, to see they can manage their own family well, that they can fight their battles alone.
On the other hand, my greatest fear as a mother is to see them die ahead of me. Every day, I asked God to protect my children from accident and sudden death.
Manage your health well. Good health is precious than money and possessions. How can you give the best for your kids if you cannot work to provide good food for your family?
2. The Test of Patience
People are often impatient; we consider waiting as the most boring part of our lives. Waiting for 1 hour in a traffic jam is stressful, waiting for 2 years for your love ones who worked overseas, or simply waiting in line in government offices. Waiting is hard but it can teach us lessons.
The Test of Patience is revealed while waiting. Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to be calm while waiting.
True story, vegetable business might be crucial because you cannot measure its trend, the price changes every day plus the fact that it rots easily.
Whatever industry you’re in, there are people who can test your patience beyond your ability. There are unreasonable people who think they’re important. They have the ability to destroy your mood and vibes. Their mission is to test your character in dealing with difficulties and complications.
My 7 years in this industry showed me thousands of reasons to be calm and patience. Truly they say, “Gold is tested by fire, as man was tested by perseverance”.
One day, I have met this old lady bought tomatoes from us; she spent almost 15 minutes pinching and choosing tomatoes. After 15 minutes, she let me weigh it – its half kilo. She asked for a discount and with a big smile I gave her discount. But before she left, she got another without my consent.
I felt that my face turned red with disappointment but still chose to take a deep breath and be calm. I told myself, “She might be a one-time customer”. But she keeps on coming back and became our regular customer.
Day after day, I have to deal with her with respect, but the more I respect her, the more she annoys me. Every time I saw her coming, I utter a simple prayer; I pray that God will give me enough patience and strength to deal with that unreasonable customers.
After one month, I never saw her, although she always gets into my nerve, she taught me one thing – patience. She taught me how to be calm and patient in difficult situations. After that incident, God blessed me more. He gave me good and regular customers who buy bulks from our store.
Our patience is one of our greatest assets; it can break or make our company. Sometimes God allow people to annoy us because He was preparing us for a greater blessing to come. Let us take it as a challenge not a problem, an opportunity not a curse.
3. The Test of Hidden Opportunities
I strongly believed that we are filled with opportunities. We just have to spot the right one. Not every opportunity that knocks is meant for us. So be wise. Learn to say “no” to opportunities that are far from your Passion, Purpose and Potential.
I want to share with you my favorite short story written in the book entitled law of leverage by Rane A. Panaligan. I read it many years ago but the lesson remained in me through the years. It inspired me a lot.
In ancient times, a great king had a big rock placed on a roadway. Then he hides himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king’s wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the road clear, but none did anything about getting the big stone out of the way.
A few hours later, the peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. On approaching a big rock, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. As the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the big rock had been. The purse contained many gold coins and note from the king stating, “The gold is for the person who removed the rock from the roadway”. The peasant learned what many others never understand and was gratefully rewarded.
Opportunities many times disguise themselves as adversities. It is contained within every problem that you have in your life. Every single problem that we have is the seed of an opportunity for some greater benefits. Once you have that perception, you open up the whole range of possibilities and this keeps the mystery, the excitement, the adventure alive. You can look at every problem you have in your life as an opportunity for some greater benefits. And when your preparedness meets opportunity, the solution to your problem will spontaneously appear.
Remember, every obstacle contains with it the seed of equal or greater benefits.
4. The Test of Health and Passion
THE HIDDEN TREASURE
He was known to be strong and healthy – both mentally and physically; energetic, full of stories to tell. He’s a warrior who never surrenders to any circumstances whatsoever, a responsible father, brother and a friend to everybody; but he was once, imprisoned with severe and rare disease that even a doctor cannot name it.
I pitied him and his kids; they are very young to be with this kind of setbacks. He cannot walk and worst cannot eat, every day the disease is becoming worst. According to him, he feels that his blood stops circulating in his sleep so his wife needs to wake him up at the middle of the night to check his breath. He was so thin and helpless; everybody is worried about his situation.
But One year after, he recovered. Although not very strong at least he can stand and do light works. There, he made these beautiful crafts.
He has a natural talent on arts and design; he was very creative which I believed he can enhance more if given a chance to study fine arts. This is his hidden treasure, the talent that can make a difference.
My mission is to help bring out the best in him, his crafts and talents can go the distance. And that his craft can earn a living.
I love, respect, and admire him not just because he’s kind and responsible but because he made a difference in my life – he was my big brother, who sacrificed “school” just to let me finished college.
