Mom Road Ahead

The OFW Diary

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinterestlinkedintumblr

Everyday thousands of Filipinos leave their homeland to work abroad to seek for a greener pasture. They left their husbands and wives, children, their jobs and their positions for greater opportunities.  The number one reason is the lack of opportunities in the country. Unemployment and underemployment are so high that the government cannot sustain all the jobs needed for its citizens.

But why are so many overseas workers after spending years of working abroad went home a failure? They are back to zero again? Why did they fail?

  • They abused their salaries, buying things that don’t value much.
  • Their families asked too much, they cannot say “No”. They want to provide everything for them
  • They don’t know the different between needs and wants
  • They were abused by their employers.
  • Due to homesickness, they were in love with an abusive man
  • They have a wrong mindset about money,
  • They believed that it’s okay to splurge. It’s okay to celebrate once in a while.
  • Their friends are bad influence; their past time is going to the bar.
  • They were abused by illegal recruiters

I am once an OFW but failed due to some of the above reasons. “Money”- if you don’t take care of it, it will eventually fade away. It will go to the one who knew how to handle it.

TOP 10 WEIRDEST BELIEFS OTHERS STILL PRACTICE

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinterestlinkedintumblr

I was born and grew up in the province of Benguet but stayed permanently here in Batangas because our business is here. I also love the good weather, Hindi gaanong mainit hindi rin gaanong malamig, kumbaga eksakto lang.

And I say, Batangas is one of the provinces that still practice old traditions and culture.  There are lots of beliefs that people here practice.

We lived in a community full of traditions, almost everybody believes in superstitious beliefs. I am very uncomfortable because my parents never taught us any of these, maybe because my mother is a Christian.

But I respect other’s belief and culture, iyon kasi ang pinapaniwalaan nila. At naniniwala ako na kung ano ang pinapaniwalaan mo nagkakatotoo sa iyo. Kaya minsan nag-iingat di ako sa mga pinapaniwalaan ko.

How FAITH Overcame my FEARS?

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinterestlinkedintumblr

Fear is the absence of Faith. When you let it in, you’re allowing it to stop you from achieving the things you are created to be.  We all have fears, even successful people have it – the only difference is that they never let it stop them. They act despite of fear!

According to research, the top 5 greatest fears of people are:

  1. Fear of the dark
  2. Fear of cockroaches and rats
  3. Fear of blood
  4. Fear of heights
  5. Fear of the unknown

Five Things to Do this Holy Week

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinterestlinkedintumblr

Holy week is here – one of my favorite weeks of the year. It is the annual observance commemorating Jesus’ last week on earth and the events leading up to his resurrection on Easter Sunday (Calendarpedia)  It is the most important festival of the Christian church. It’s the time for us Christians to retreat, fast and repent for the wrong things we had done.

Aside from its sacredness, it’s also the best time to bond, play, and be with your family.

The 3 Expressions of a Father’s Love– A daughter’s tribute

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinterestlinkedintumblr

My father joined his creator May of last year. He is the best father and a good provider. We haven’t got enough money to splurge on material things but we are filled with his unconditional love – the Love that cannot be fathom, the love that can’t be shaken by surging storms and shaking grounds.

I wrote this article as a tribute to my father. These past few days, I often saw him in my dreams.  I can’t get his message but I missed him badly.

What the Bible say about family and fatherhood? In Colossians 3 it says, “Wives, submit to your husband, as is fitting to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh on them. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Father, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.”

In my opinion, the best advice on parenting comes from the Bible. If we only obey what it says, no divorce and no separation will take its place. Our family is never perfect, when I was a kid I often saw them fighting silently, but they never gave up on us!

MY EXPERIENCE ABOUT FEBRILE CONVULSION

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinterestlinkedintumblr

My eldest son was 8-month old when he suddenly passed out in my arms. I was so shocked that I couldn’t explain my feeling. My whole body was shaking and my mind cannot function well. I don’t know what to do.  I am hopeless. I was crying and shouting for help, I thought he was dead. He lost his consciousness although his eyes remained open. His skin turned blue.

His seizure ended after 5 minutes but that 5 minutes was a nightmare. It was a terrible feeling I couldn’t explain, a worst feeling a mother could ever feel most especially if you are a first time mom.

Due to panic, my husband brought my son to the nearest hospital barefooted. He also didn’t wear any t-shirt. Situation like this will paralyze your entire mind and body. You cannot think straight, I can’t think of a better solution. I can’t calm myself because I’m terribly shaking.

Prayer of a Forsaken Child

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinterestlinkedintumblr

I wrote this prayer just after Typhoon Yolanda. It was a super typhoon landed in the Philippines that stole a thousand lives. It was probably the most destructive typhoon ever landed in the region.

It happened years ago but it always remind me of that tragic night. It taught me lessons of empathy and gratefulness. Life is short to waste on things that don’t matter. It taught me to live my life to the fullest.

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinterestlinkedintumblr

There are tests of life we have to endure. Everyday we are confronted with setbacks and trials that leave us unguarded. But Life is Good Despite Surging storms, Shaking Ground and Trials. God will win our fights.

1. The Test of Life and Death

What if one day, you will face difficult situation that test your ability to decide from two major decisions? Let say, your wife is about to give birth to your first baby, you have waited for so long, prayed and cried a lot, went to a series of fertilization just to conceive. And God answered your prayer.

My Borderless World

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinterestlinkedintumblr

Life is full of borders. We sometimes feel that we live inside the box, so limited. But if you look at the horizon, you’ll see, you have a “borderless” world.

it’s true, Life is full of chaos and mysteries that has the ability to stop or prevent us from fighting for the things we want in life. Poverty is one, many students these days choose their course in college according to what is affordable. You want to be a doctor or a lawyer but because your parents cannot afford it, you settled for something “less” even if it’s not your passion and potential. But after graduation, you didn’t pursue it because it’s boring to you. It is not what you want to do.
